Successful use of the Start-up Grant

The start-up subsidy from the Employment Agency, also known as the business start-up subsidy or founder subsidy, offers financial support during the initial phase of self-employment. The law provides detailed information in § 93 SGB III. After successful approval by the Agentur für Arbeit you will receive your start-up subsidy for 6 months. The exact amount of the start-up subsidy depends on the amount of your entitlement to unemployment benefit. The amount is based on the last unemployment benefit you received and an additional 300 Euros per month. After the 6 months you can receive another 9 months of 300 Euro per month. The start-up subsidy can be approved under certain conditions to secure your livelihood and for social security in the period after you start your business. There is no legal entitlement. However, the possible approval can be prepared very well in order to achieve an optimal success. The most important conditions for a subsidy are:
  • Taking up full-time self-employment, which ends unemployment. However, it is important that you do not register for self-employment until you receive the registration documents from the employment agency for the start-up subsidy. Otherwise you would be full-time self-employed and would no longer be looking for work.
  • The entitlement to unemployment benefit continues for at least 150 days after the start of self-employment.
  • The viability of the business start-up is proven. With the business and financial plan as well as a statement from an expert body. This can also be prepared for you by our Institute for Career and Entrepreneurship at Wistor GmbH for a viable business start-up project.
  • A capital requirement and financing plan as well as a turnover and profitability forecast, which our start-up experts will also plan with you, incorporating helpful tips from our practical experience.
  • Creation of a meaningful description of the business start-up project to explain the business idea. This can be done, for example, within the framework of a business plan, which we also draw up together at our Institute for Career and Entrepreneurship at Wistor GmbH so that you are optimally prepared.
